Woman power
WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN THE WILD EAST
Pohjois-Karjalan Karellikeskus Ltd sets the wheels turning with WOMAN POWER.
Karelli is a mixture of enthusiasm, encouragement and joint efforts to boost women entrepreneurship. On the eastern border women have confidence in the power of co-operation when justifying their existence and expertise and searching for opportunities to make their living on the fringes of the country. Karellikeskus gathers different women from all over North Karelia to an economically objective-oriented co-operation, which develops women's entrepreneurship and employment.
KARELLIKESKUS AT THE HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT - AIMING AT A BETTER NORTH KARELIA THROUGH PROJECTS
The development instruments include many kinds of synergy generated by joining the diversified sectors of women's expertise, EU projects as well as assistance of co-operation partners. Projects also help in processing the own operation methods of Karellikeskus Ltd, in creation of a team network and register between the region's women experts and entrepreneurs, in organisation of employment training courses as well as training in marketing to different groups of women, in searching for tailor-made solutions to everyday problems, in women's leadership training, in publication of a magazine and other representative material, in organisation of events and seminars as well as in building of a bridge between the eastern and western side of the European Union.
The activities and projects involve hundreds of women from all over North Karelia. The project Karelli Model for the World networks women's own Karelli teams functioning in almost every municipality throughout the whole region. The team members promote issues they consider important in their own municipalities. Through regional networking the team members develop their entrepreneurship, find co-operation partners, join their forces and create more opportunities of living in North Karelia.
The communication and marketing project ViestintäViehko increases facilities for communication and marketing in its target groups, which include the unemployed, entrepreneurs, rural entrepreneurs, housewives and women in rural regions, as well as several other groups. The project activities include training, seminars, thematic meetings and marketing and study trips. The project is also developing an "Acute Aid" marketing model for the purposes of small-sized enterprises. Women's entrepreneurship is introduced by producing material for various media.
The network model Puotiska in the project ViestintäViehko constructs and pilots a Puotiska substitute entrepreneurship model for entrepreneurs of several different sectors working alone in their enterprise. Puotiska offers entrepreneurs an opportunity to leave their enterprise from time to time to some other reliable person for shorter or longer periods. Puotiska experiments have received very positive feedback.
The project Ladies' Businesses gathers housewives and women living in rural regions from all over North Karelia to Women's Houses. In the future Women's Houses will host many kinds of activities and happenings supporting local women entrepreneurs. Women's Houses open their doors also to men e.g. to family training supporting entrepreneurship.
