'Although the study confirms that women are under-represented among industrial researchers, especially at hierarchical levels, it provides encouraging perspectives by showing that the private research sector has recently begun to recruit more highly qualified young women.
The study stresses the need to improve the quality of statistics, and calls for a specific survey among European scientists and engineers with the aim to collect detailed information on the educational, labour and R&D trends of highly qualified women and men.
The data sources, case studies and good practices reiterate the need for a 'transformative' approach to changing the working environment within industrial research. '
