FIGHT FOR FEMALE VOTES

In Hungary we are going to have the possibility to decide about our next four years more or less. There will be general elections in April 2006.

There are only a few female politicians all over Europe though we, women are an accentuated target group in the fight for votes.

In our country there are two dominant parties: MSZP, a left-wing party and FIDESZ, a right-wing party.

In this February FIDESZ is going to start a new communication campaign specialized for women that is unprecedented in Hungarian political history. During this campaign they are going to visit 80 towns.

They want to pass their political messages (promises) to women, be they young or old, single or married. One of FIDESZ’s most important faces is Pelczné Gáll Ildikó who is a mother, wife, and teacher in the university of Miskolc (I must mention that she taught me and she is a very good teacher) and a successful politician.

In the opinion of political experts it is inconceivable in Scandinavian countries that politicians and political parties try to reach women and men in a different way. At the same time it seems to be a new tendency in Hungary. We hope our politicians – independently from their orientation - will deal with women’s needs not only during the campaign but also after it.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union made a research about the number of women representatives in different countries. According to the survey Hungary is in the last place among the 25 European countries. The result did not upset the Hungarian public.
