Territorial Agenda of the EU

On 24 and 25 May 2007 an Informal Ministerial conference will be held in Leipzig within the framework of the German EU Presidency where the ministers responsible for Spatial Development in EU Member States will adopt the so-called 'Territorial Agenda of the EU'.

The policy document and its recommendations for an integrated spatial development policy aim at

  • mobilising the potentials of European regions and cities for sustainable economic growth and more jobs
  • strengthening Europe's competitiveness  and innovativeness
  • improving governance.

In the period until Leipzig, under the Finnish EU Presidency during the second half year of 2006 spatial development policy stakeholders will be involved in a dialogue on elaborating the Territorial Agenda of the EU.

Finland intends to introduce some ideas into the discussion about the components which enable European cities to grow into globally competitive places which are able to create new jobs and prosperity. Finland arranges on 24-25 October 2006 in the City of Lappeenranta also an expert meeting on the issue.
