European Observatory identifies record-breaking asteroid
[Date: 2001-08-24]European researchers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have identified an asteroid larger than any other known object of its kind in the solar system. A team of German, Finnish and Swedish astronomers used a conventional telescope at the European Southern Observatory in La Silla, Chile in combination with Astrovirtel, the world's first operational virtual telescope based at ESO headquarters in Garching, Germany, to gain a more accurate measurement of the size of distant asteroid '2001 KX76. |
