The European Parliament adopted a compromise deal on the rules for participation in the Sixth Framework programme (FP6) for research and development (R&D) on 3 July. The deal, reached between rapporteur Godelieve Quisthoudt-Rowohl, shadow rapporteurs and the Spanish Presidency takes into account the main concerns expressed by MEPs. |

Commission approves
880 million for forward-looking and more flexible
research
On 17 October the European
Commission adopted a proposal by Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin to
allocate 880 million euro to forward looking and more flexible research under
the next RTD Framework Programme, FP6. The money will be
allocated to 'anticipating the EU's scientific and technological needs. |

The position paper issued by the Hungarian ministry
for education, broadly welcomes the Sixth Framework programme (FP6) and
the proposed European research area (ERA) and underlines
that the outlines of both FP6 and ERA could help speed up integration of
candidate countries into the European Union. They underline, however, that
this can only happen if there are sufficient measures to address
candidate country specific
issues. |
